Eric Prydyz brings his mind-bending live experience to Ibiza

Eric Prydz UNVRS Ibiza Residency is bringing the legendary audiovisual Holosphere 2.0 spectacle to Monday nights this summer on Ibiza, and it’s exactly the kind of boundary-pushing residency the White Isle needs right now. Starting June 2025, the Swedish mastermind will transform the forward-thinking club into his personal playground, merging progressive house anthems with the kind of visual technology most venues couldn’t even dream of housing.

Monday night metamorphosis

[UNVRS] has quickly carved its reputation as Ibiza’s most technically ambitious venue. Unlike the island’s commercial superclubs that lean on confetti cannons and CO2 blasts, [UNVRS] has purpose-built for genuine audiovisual immersion – all concrete and steel with acoustics that would make Berlin’s finest spots jealous. Monday nights have traditionally been dead zones on the Balearic calendar, but Prydz’s appointment signals a deliberate attempt to rewrite the weekly rhythm of the island.

We’ve seen what Prydz can do with the right canvas – his HOLO shows have redefined what’s possible in electronic music performance, using holographic technology that makes other “immersive” experiences look like PowerPoint presentations. What’s different about the [UNVRS] residency is the intimacy. Rather than arena-sized bombast, expect something closer to the spiritual experience of his EPIC Radio broadcasts but realized in three dimensions.

Beyond the drops

Anyone who’s followed Prydz knows his relationship with Ibiza has been complicated. His previous residencies at Hï have showcased his commercial sensibility, but real heads know his Pryda and Cirez D aliases often reveal his most compelling work. Sources close to the residency suggest we’ll get a proper look at these darker, more experimental sides throughout the season.

“This isn’t just another DJ set with some fancy lights,” explains [UNVRS] creative director Maya Hoffman. “We’ve been in development with Eric’s team since last winter, building something that responds to the architecture of our space. The system we’re installing is completely bespoke – it’s not something that exists anywhere else on the island.”

What’s most exciting is how the residency will evolve across the season. Rather than repeating the same spectacle weekly, Prydz has apparently designed a narrative arc that will unfold across the summer, with each Monday building on the last. It’s the kind of ambitious commitment that feels more like an art installation than a club night.

Technical revolution

The technical specifications would make even the most jaded production nerds weak at the knees. [UNVRS] has gutted their entire lighting rig and rebuilt it specifically for Prydz’s requirements – a seven-figure investment that includes a custom-built 270-degree projection system and floating transparent LED screens that can be reconfigured throughout the night.

Most DJs bring USB sticks to Ibiza residencies. Prydz is bringing a team of visual artists, programmers, and engineers who’ll be on-site for the entire season. The audio setup is equally impressive – a quad-core system with bass transducers built into the floor that essentially turns the entire club into one massive speaker cabinet.

“We’ve created something that responds directly to the frequencies in Eric’s productions,” says [UNVRS] sound director Tom Richards. “The way certain elements in his tracks trigger specific visual and physical responses in the room… it’s basically synesthesia by design.”

Cultural reset

What makes this residency particularly significant is its timing. Ibiza has been at a crossroads lately, with conversations about sustainability, authenticity and the island’s soul dominating the discourse. The [UNVRS] approach – focusing on sonic and visual innovation rather than VIP tables and bottle service – feels like an important cultural statement.

Prydz himself has been typically reserved about the project, but in a rare interview with Mixmag last month, he hinted at his intentions: “I’ve always wanted to create something where the environment becomes as important as the music. With this residency, we’re building a space where those boundaries completely dissolve.”

For those who’ve been lucky enough to experience his one-off HOLO shows, this represents something potentially more significant – the chance to see an artist evolve a concept over multiple performances in a space specifically designed for his vision.

Underground credentials

Despite his commercial success, Prydz has maintained an unusual position in dance music – respected by the underground while commanding mainstream appeal. The [UNVRS] residency seems designed to satisfy both worlds, with early sets rumored to showcase deeper cuts before building toward the inevitable emotional peaks his crowds expect.

It’s worth noting that [UNVRS] has taken a different approach to programming. Rather than packing their calendar with names, they’ve opted for fewer, more substantial residencies where artists can truly explore their sound. Their partnership with Prydz suggests they’re doubling down on this quality-over-quantity approach.

Tickets won’t come cheap – early information suggests pricing around €70-90 per night, with season passes available for dedicated followers. Given the production costs involved, that’s hardly surprising, but it positions the night as a premium experience rather than a casual drop-in.

For those planning their Ibiza trips for 2025, Monday nights at [UNVRS] just jumped to the top of the must-visit list. The residency runs from June through September, with tickets available through our affiliate links from next month.
